Your Weekend Escape to Astoria, OR: 10 Can't-Miss Spots in the jewel of the Pacific NorthWest.

Article by: Sophie DeWitt

Full disclosure, I spent the majority of my formative teenage years as a resident of Astoria, OR. When I left, over 10 years ago, the most thrilling event in town was the opening of a brand new Safeway. Yep, that’s what excited our population of just over 10,000. Little did I know, less than a decade later, my tiny fishing town would turn into a shining jewel of the Pacific Northwest.

Situated right at the northwest tip of Oregon, with a newly revitalized downtown and growing popularity amongst young travellers everywhere, Astoria has become somewhat of a hipster haven and certainly a town that will provide a beautiful, entertaining stop on a weekend getaway along the coast.

The Goondocks Movie Tours

It’s a little-known fact that Oregon’s North Coast has been host to a number of 80’s and 90’s film classics. Flicks from Free Willy to Kindergarten Cop to Short Circuit were all filmed in our backyard. None of these films, however, have gained cult status like The Goonies! Utilize The Goondocks to take a self-guided tour through all of the filming locations in town. Afterwards, visit the Oregon Film Museum to experience the history of our movie-making magic, up close. If you're in town on June 7th, you can celebrate Goonies Day with the rest of the region.
